I've just been doing some terribly important desk research. Last night was Queen Bonnie's 2nd 30th birthday party (more on this to follow) and I'm in no state to go to a real pub today, so thought I'd find one online instead. Besides which, this blog is in danger of becoming a tad London-centric, which was never the plan.
Anyway,I found a right corker! Check out the Shooters Arms in Lancashire, ideally in person or at least take a look at the website and landlord's blog. I like the cut of his jib.
This looks like exactly the kind of pub I want to chance upon whilst driving (alright, being driven) around places like Cornwall and the Isle of Wight on weekend treats away. Unfortunately such romantic retreats have been ravaged by the unstoppable force of consumerism that dictates 'find a hidden treasure, advertise it to the masses' and is the death of traditional rural pubs in tourism hot spots.
But until I see Burnley listed in Sunday Times Travel's 'top ten weekend getaways' feature, there's hope for the Shooters Arms. If you do get the chance to visit please come back and tell me if the reality matches expectation!
